I just requalified for my Hyatt Globalist status (unexpectedly early), and given my current use of Hyatt awards during this year, I feel like I’m being extraordinarily swamped with Suite Upgrades for 2027.
In the years past, I always waited until late November or even December to requalify but right now I just happened to stay the three last nights required to renew Globalist for this year.
In fact, last time (2025), I didn’t even do the full 60 nights, as I completed a fast track; instead, I just stayed when it made sense and barely finished my 50th night on Dec 30th to get two additional suite upgrades.
But I really ended up wasting those for stays where it didn’t make any sense. Like when I stayed for 1-2 nights at certain properties and didn’t want to gamble to get a suite upgrade on arrival.
I had quite a high amount of spend in 2026 compared to past years:

This is mostly due to some expensive stays with family in Thailand where I had multiple rooms at the Park Hyatt and the Hyatt Regency in Hua Hin and a few stays in Korea.
But what really “worries” me is the number of Suite Upgrade Certificates that I now have to burn in 2027.
Five SUA’s in total now expire in February 2028:

Looking back, I should have probably just selected the 5,000 points for the 50-night milestone, but that kinda looked like a waste to me. Even when I use the upgrades to secure suites for some 1-2 night stays, it still represents better value than just picking 5k points.
Now I could potentially get another 10k points for 10 more nights (at the 70 Night milestone), but the question remains whether that’s incentive enough to keep staying with World of Hyatt for the remainder of the year or instead go for the best price, rather than going all in with one brand.
Staying 60 or more actual nights at a hotel is difficult and costly under normal circumstances, and adding another hotel membership is definitely a task unless you use various credit card products to supplement the required elite nights. I won’t be making Marriott Titanium anymore and will just leave it at my Lifetime Platinum with Bonvoy.
Conclusion
I started my year off quite strong with Hyatt and already had almost 40 nights by the end of March. The remaining nights I filled up where it made sense price-wise, and just last week I had my requalification stay at the Caption in Osaka.
Unfortunately, the early qualification had the unintended consequence of my suite upgrades having a limited lifespan (February 2028), and now I have to be rather generous with their use in the coming year. The nice thing about that is you don’t have to think too much, even when it’s a very short stay.
Have you optimized your 2026 hotel memberships yet, with roughly 7 weeks left this year?
