Qantas and Air France – KLM launched a partnership in 2019 (read more here), expanded it in July last year (read more here), and promised “enhanced” loyalty cooperation “soon”.

Flying Blue members can now use their miles for Qantas Premium Economy and First Class award tickets.

You can access Flying Blue here.

Flying Blue’s Notice: Qantas: new spend benefits

You can now use your Miles for reward tickets in Premium Economy and First on Qantas, in addition to Economy and Business.

This applies to flights marketed and operated by Qantas, on routes where these cabins are offered, such as Sydney to Los Angeles, Singapore to Melbourne, and others across the Qantas network, subject to availability. Reward seats are limited and vary by flight and date.

This addition continues the partnership expansion announced in July 2025 and further strengthens the cooperation between Air France-KLM and Qantas.

Ultimate members also have access to the Qantas First Lounge in Los Angeles, Melbourne, and Sydney. The Singapore First Lounge is not available due to airport restrictions.

Conclusion

Partner awards, in general, are not very good value using Flying Blue miles due to high mileage requirements combined with carrier/fuel surcharges, but you might find something useful every once in a while.

It is good, however, to always have options for where and how to use your miles, so having access to Qantas’s very limited first-class award inventory and Premium Economy is a good thing.
