I actually just renewed my Ambassador membership in late September using cash, as I do stay at InterContinental hotels frequently enough that it makes.
The 2-4-1 weekend night voucher basically pays for the membership if you can find availability using it (can be very challenging at times, and I didn’t use it in an optional way earlier this year).
I assume the Ambassador renewal numbers are soft, since I doubt they’d offer this additional bonus otherwise.
